2010 edition Black China Intelligence Centre Released

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

AZ China is pleased to announce that the 2010 edition of our “Black China Intelligence Centre” is now on sale.

This CD is packed with the latest information about China’s aluminium raw materials markets. We have updated all our files and databases, to bring you new information such as the latest plans for expansions, export sales, capacity added, 2009 production and so on.

The CD database has two search streams. In the Black Pages section, you can look up a particular supplier, exactly as you would for a plumber for home. For each product group, you can search by province or structure of the supplier, then drill down on each supplier to get a full dossier on them.

TMS meetings

Monday, January 25th, 2010

TMS is one of those strange events that comes around every year.   The initials stand for “The Metals Society”, an organisation in the USA which holds an annual conference/convention.   This year it will be held in Seattle, February 14 – 17.

Thousands of technical people from around the world will converge on the convention centre to hear papers from peers on an incredibly broad rage of topics.   While those folks are in the lecture rooms, we commercial people converge on the surrounding hotels for a series of meetings.   Since the aluminium and related raw materials markets are global in nature, this event gives buyers and sellers alike a chance to meet and discuss contracts, markets and delivery schedules.   But it is not technically correct that we are “attending TMS”.    What we are doing is, using TMS as a catalyst for these commercial meetings, but The Metals Society does not get a penny from the hundreds of commercial people that say they will be at TMS this year.

It is quite a sight to see so many dark-suited business people congregating in the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel at the top of each hour, all looking for their next appointment.   A couple of years ago, TMS was held in Orlando Florida, so interspersed with these business folk were families, small kids in bathing suits and a whole lot of fun noises.

If you are attending TMS this year, and you would like to meet us, we will be there.   Send me an email at blackchina@az-china.com.

Registrations now open

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

The AZ China International Carbon Conference is now accepting registrations.

The conference will be held May 24 to 27 2010, at the Beijing Hilton hotel, Beijing, China.     The theme of the conference is “The decade ahead – opening the red curtain”.   We will look at the shape of the aluminium and carbon industries, with a view to how things are likely to unfold as the world emerges from the exonomic crisis.

We have several speakers lined up already, including experts from inside and outside China.

There will be some very special events attached to the conference.   Perhaps the most exciting will be a formal dinner on the Great Wall of China.   We have secured permission to hold a dinner on top of the Wall, and have hired an executive chef to prepare an outstanding dinner.   It will be a night to remember.

Go to our website http://www.conference.az-china.com to see more details and to download a registration form.

The CD is the result of two years work by the team at AZ China, and gives you everything we know about the China market.   Covering everything from aluminium to coke to pitch to fluoride, the CD is structured to give users easy access to the data.

Users can elect to use a directory service, called “The Black Pages”, which provides contact details, structural information about the supplier and his recent history.   Those who wish to conduct broad product-based analysis can use the “Intelligence Service”, which provides various selection and output criteria.   The CD also has a charting tool, in which elegant charts can be prepared for cutting and pasting into your own documents.

Australian football in Beijing – alive and well

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Australians play a peculiar style of football that is nothing like Rugby or Soccer or American football.   It’s played on an oval field, roughly twice the size of a soccer pitch.   At any time, each side has 18 players on the field.    It’s a fast and physical game, with its own set of rules for scoring, tackling and so on.

It is a challenge therefore, for expat Aussies to find a suitable field in Beijing.   Then it’s a matter of getting enough players together to not just form a team, but a whole competition.    Hence the game is played on a soccer field, with 9 players per side.   Otherwise, everything else is the same.

AZ China was delighted to be given the chance to sponsor a team  - the ChaoYang Cats.   Our team turned out today to play a double header, wearing their brand new gear, courtesy of AZ China.   The first game, against the Sanlitun Immunity, was a close game, but a last minute goal by the Immunity gave them the game by two points.   In the second game, against the Dong Cheng Saints, the team came home strongly to win convincingly.   That was despite the heat and the wear and tear of two games played back-to-back.

As an Australian, I am delighted to see so many Chinese players taking up the game.   And as I am a loyal Geelong Cats fan in the Australian Football League (AFL), it was an easy choice as to which team to sponsor.

From these three teams, a Beijing team is selected.   The Beijing Bombers will play against Shanghai and Hong Kong for the China Cup.   A representative team is then selected to play against the Philippines, Malaysia and other Asian teams.   It’s great to see my favorite game gradually get a foothold here.

I hope you enjoy these photos from today’s games.
