I really value the service you provide to those of us who don't get to spend as much time in China. It is really useful.

However, you miss the exceptional nature of the technology that DFD is working with. At the risk of being self-serving. The CHENCO technology that DFD is working with with CHALCO is very unique. In addition to very unique kiln internals and externals, exceptional sulfur separation technologies, the most advanced and highest quality purification systems for AHF - yielding best quality and lowest cost - CHENCO's AlF3 technologies includes the CHENCO expanded fluid bed technologies - that reduce everything from material consumption, to partial load penalties, to much more cost and quality problems. These are the best in the world for a reason. The AlF3 market is currently weeding out the older technology players - who cannot compete on cost or quality - with a host of new ones. All of which are using CHENCO - or trying to copy it. This is reality. AlF3 is still an extremely tough market, but it is not static. Ask Mexichem, Sephaku, DFD or some of the old line guys on the way out.

You must have missed the Fluorpsar presentations by CHENCO in Shaghai, Las Vegas, or Valencia... It is changing the game.

Thanks for the work you do!

Just to clarify for the sake of my collaborators at Alcoa and CSIRO. I didn't invent the process, just have played a part in figuring out what exactly is going on and which bacteria were responsible for the biological degradation of oxalate. Thanks for the positive feedback though, its done wonders for my confidence :D

I wonder how Australian this Stern Hu is. It is common practice for multinationals to head hunt executives from their chosen market and get somebody high up in government to help assist with provisioning citizenship. Did Stern Hu having spend any significant time in Australia prior to his award of Australian citizenship or was it merely part of his Rio Tinto employment package? The timeline of his biography has little room for an overseas holiday to the Gold Coast, much less a childhood of playing cricket on the beach.

It is time to teach these Aussies a good lesson on how to behave in the Asian Continent, which they obviously do not belong in the first place. They must remember they are merely decendants of white colonial conquerers illegally transported onto Asia without our approval. Their presence is an insult to us.

I am a very small player in international trade but am outraged by the Stern Hu incident. As far as I'm concerned I will not support Chinese industry while this line is being pursued. This is of course unfortunate for the average Chinese manufacturer or industry player and is so archaic in principle that I am unable to accept. If China wants to play in the international commercial arena it must accept basic human rights and move away from the suppression of people. If this is not the case then they will need to re-internalise and simply return to their previous insulated domain. These are not easy financial times and given China has tasted the benefit of a freed-up economy many are astounded that there is a desire to take this petty approach

Good question. China does not have 6 million tonnes of idle capacity. This figure includes around 3 million tonnes which is still under construction. The State Reserves Board required that smelters bidding to supply the Strategic Reserves must be capable of delivering 20,000 tonnes within a month. That rules out many smaller smelters, leaving Chalco in a good position. As for the imported metal being used to fill these orders, most imports occurred April or May, after the SRB orders had been filled.

Thanks for the comment. I think you mean Gaelic, not Gallic. Gallic means French - they are an average Rugby team, reasonable soccer side.
