On December 15, the Beijing Government issued a broad alert to several surrounding provinces warning of severe pollution affecting the entire area for the next few days.
China has a multi-level pollution alert system, with Red Alerts being the highest level. According to the announcement, the pollution levels these next days will be beyond the levels for a Red Alert.
The provinces involved include Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Hebei, and Henan. Asimilar problem is occurring in Chongqing district. The central government has ordered all polluting factories in these areas to close. The local provincial authorities are tasked with enforcing these closures.
In addition, Ministry of environmental protection has decided to again send 13 inspection teams to all red and orange warning cities. Inspection content includes whether the government has implement the early warning plans, check whether the enterprise has followed the implement in place. Such stringent inspection covering a wide range is rare.
The picture here shows the forecast pollution for Beijing for the next five days. Frankly, the wind has more power to move pollution than the measures that the government is taking.
